About Miles Henry, Founder
Miles skipped the first week of his senior year in college to take a Flameworking class at Penland School of Craft and never thought about using his college degree again.
He has been passionate about creating functional, artistic, and scientific glass with the torch ever since. For over three decades, Miles has delved into all the intricacies of building, running, and maintaining a flameworking glass studio while also teaching and helping others. He has a wealth of technical knowledge and experience with torch, lathe, and scientific work, industrial glass production, plasma/neon sculpture, as well as hot glass and kiln-formed work.
Miles has helped many flameworkers get their start and enjoys sharing his knowledge with novices and experienced glass blowers alike, as well as teaching out of his own studio. He has been a teacher's assistant at Penland School of Crafts with Sally Prasch (lathe working), Wayne Strattman and David Wilson (plasma/neon sculpture), and James Minson (flameworking). With an always welcoming, fun and helpful attitude, Miles is always excited to meet new glassblowers and share his over 30 years of glass experience.
